hiya!

My name is Andy Lamp (he/him), and I’m a collage, mosaic, and multi-media artist proudly creating in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rainbows are just a beginning.

Originally from Iowa, I have been a continuous Minnesotan and Twin Cities denizen for 17 years. After graduating from the University of Iowa with a degree in Theatre Arts, I came to the Twin Cities in pursuit of work, a creative outlet, a thriving LQBTQIA+ community, and a sense of self.

I found all of them.

I started to express myself through painting and collage in 2022. I used bright colors and bold shapes and figures to fight off the greys of Minnesota winters and create my own versions of the joyful, innately queer artwork I would see at Gay Pride in June.

My practice has expanded year over year, and continues to grow. In 2026, I was honored to be named a Twin Cities Pride Artist-in-Residence, which I will hold through 2027. Through my practice, I explore how color makes us feel, how it inspires belonging and wonder, and how through art we can live courageously out loud, just as we are, in today’s world.

He is standing next to a table covered with rainbow-colored paper strips and smiling slightly. The room has shelves with colorful storage boxes, framed rainbow artwork on the wall, and a black floor lamp.

WHAT INSPIRES ME?

I’m inspired by anything that brings me wonder and awe:

  • Color - wild and domesticated

  • Pride flags - all of them

  • Nightlife and the colorful people who thrive in it: drag kings and queens, extroverts, artists of all kinds, the neon signs and lights of a gay bar, or a disco ball.

  • Minnesota weather - good and bad

  • Maps, signs, legends, and keys

  • Being gay in today’s world

  • Collective effervescence

  • The bravery, generosity, and stubborn joy of my community
